Apr 26,  · The last Eluvium album, Similes (), surprised many fans [including yours truly] by featuring his very own voice on almost every track. A somewhat ambient-pop record, it was a bit “different” and slightly challenging to accept by many longtime followers. With Nightmare Ending, Cooper returns to the roots/5(35).

Nightmare Ending is the first proper Eluvium album released since ’s Similes, the unexpectedly vocal-heavy ambient-pop record that simultaneously delighted and confounded longtime fans. But the Nightmare Ending story actually began years earlier, as it was intended to be the follow-up to the watershed album, Copia.

Jun 03,  · Album Reviews: Eluvium - Nightmare Ending. Even if no other ambient album this year will surpass Mountains’ stunning Centralia, Portland-based ambient recording artist Matthew Cooper’s latest deserves consideration alongside it. With Nightmare Ending, Cooper, who goes by the moniker Eluvium, has bounced back after ’s Similes, the disappointing follow up to ’s excellent Copia.

Nightmare Ending finds Eluvium, aka Matthew Cooper, returning to form with his ambient stylings after the largely forgettable Similes. Only one of the tracks on this 14 track LP contains vocals, and not surprisingly, this is also one of the weakest tracks, and a rather disappointing way to end an otherwise great ambient listening experience.
